As has become the custom now of the show, the screen fades from the again fairly mediocre XWA programming to an all too familiar placard which at this point in the evening lets the audience know it’s about to get good...
The title card once again fades us to blackness. Suddenly the darkness that enveloped our screens grows lighter as an image begins to focus into our screen, a black and white photo of Xtreme Wrestling Alliance Cheif Executive Officer and present head booker Hector Perez.
As this image takes our screen a sound bite is played. Recognizable from the first public appearance of the pictured figure his introduction is replayed for the benefit of those who have no idea who this man is. Which is probably a great deal of the audience given how diminutive and passive aggressive this individuals personality is.
"Hello, my friends. For those of you that don't know me, I am Hector Alonzo Perez, the Central Executive Officer of the business known as the Xtreme Wrestling Alliance. I was hired by the man known as Hutton Brown to head the board of directors for the company to ensure that quality product is being created and to make sure his venture capital is not in vain by assuring the company makes money.”
As this sound bite plays gentle into the background the strokes of the following instrumental piece begin to pipe in softly behind the words of Hector Perez. It lends an air of mystique and foreboding as we the viewers embark on a sordid journey together to answer a question to be posed momentarily by a gravely intoned voice actor.
VOCIEOVER: “WHO IS HECTOR PEREZ?”
As the music continues to play we see various images flash before the screen of Perez highlighting his business accomplishments, his dealings in the XWA offices and so forth. So far it appears he’s your typical mid level suit, a paper pusher who hustles and bustles making the business side of the company progress. Another bite of sound is played from his introduction to the XWA...
“Nobody is above the Xtreme Wrestling Alliance, not DGX, not EBR, nobody."
VOICEOVER: “Successful businessman. CEO of the XWA. A man of strong convictions...or is he?”
It’s now where we start to see what Hector Perez does not want us to see. It’s now that his strong opening words, chosen carefully to show strength and power of belief in his company are turned on the man himself and dragged squirming into the light of day. We see the emergence of Chris Hart as he presumably ends Hunter Nicholson’s career at Angelus’ direction and then an irate looking Michael “Tempest” Hart in the ring with a microphone.
“You gave me your word, Hector, when my son, Christopher started inquiring about joining the XWA...you gave me your goddam word that you would not sign him to even a developmental contract for at least two years. TWO years, Hector! At least til Chris finished getting his Master's degree from the University of Michigan. I've since learned that our agreement...our handshake...wasn't worth spit, because apparently it didn't even last TWO goddam months!”
Next we see the headlines surrounding Trace Demon’s contract renewal following the previous XWA Legends. Perez in a statement praising Trace Demon for his “dedication” and “work ethic” among other adjectives. These buzz words are highlighted from the release and brought forward to the screen and dimly in the backdrop we hear the bite from Perez again about “no one” being above the XWA before we’re again taken back to Trace Demon in the ring microphone in hand...
“I would rather tear this place down with my own two hands than watch it slowly crumble around me because you refuse to put in the work, because you will not try harder, because you are happy being complacent. I will not do it, I will leave and I will take this title before I let you tarnish its name.”
Next we see the considerable press given to the signing of star of the silver screen André Éttiene. All the press published by the Xtreme Wrestling Alliance flashes by on our screens with buzzwords like “coup” and “Hollywood’s Favorate Son” highlighted. We are again treated to Perez’s personal vocal stylings again as a bite is played from last night’s introductory press conference for Éttiene.
“Ladies and gentlemen, sitting before you is the biggest coup acquisition in modern sporting history. An unquestionable megastar, a box office sensation, the highest grossing thespian in the history of cinema and now…haha! Now, an XWA wrestler and, I’m certain, a future World Heavyweight champion.”
Perez beams at the new acquisition on the stage as the shot freezes and moves to black and white again the haunting sound bite of Perez declaring “No one” above the XWA playing as a mocking jive to the events unfolding before our very eyes which clearly illustrate numerous instances of Perez putting individuals above the XWA. Hypocrisy, it’s the worst kind of yoke to have smeared across your face. Another black and white image of Perez appears to the backdrop of a new sound bite.
“I, Hector Alonzo Perez, CEO of the XWA, am opting to pass on the free agents known as Rated X. This is a sporting league, not some toughman contest where any tough guy with a surly disposition can walk into this ring and think they can call the shots.”
The sound bite begins to echo and amplify Perez’s words about the XWA being a “sporting league” under his administration. As this happens we are treated to a piping in of other audio showing numerous other views of the XWA quite divergent from those of Perez...
“Human Cockfighting, Mr. Perez. Plain and simple. I’ve seen the show, if you want to call it that. I’ve seen tables, chairs, ladders, barbed wire, cattle prods, fire, razor blades and…well, in one instance that I had to turn off, what I can only describe in polite company as a “large, phallic…joy toy on a pole.” Be serious, Perez, exactly what do you expect the biggest star on the planet to do with these men?”
“Yeah I can give you some advice, my laddo! You stay the fuck away from these people! You stay away cos they don't give a shit! You take it from me. They use you and then just fuck-“
“The days when people like DGX, Alex Sean, Tempest, Angelus and Hutton Brown stood atop the mountain while people like Dan Bennett, Jack Sabbath, myself, Danger Liam, Jack Hazard, Drama, Derrick Jedi, T.K. and a whole host of other names were chasing after them has long gone and now we are left with a company of complacency.”
VOICEOVER: Doublespeak. Innuendo. Insinuation. Bald faced lies. Hector Perez employs all as tools to present the image of himself as a man who puts his company first and holds to the highest standard...
Again the cavalcade of contradictory sound bites cycles by quickly showing us plainly who Hector Perez really is. That he’s a smooth talking salesman who holds no conviction close to his heart and a man who truly believes nothing he says. The evidence is plain, his victims numerous and varied from Rose to Tempest to the entire XWA roster Trace Demon valued himself above and was rewarded for. Hell that roster can be a two time victim with the preference he shows for the star power of titan of Tinsel Town André Éttiene going so far as to dub him a world champion before he’s had so much as a match. Finally we are treated at last to one more image of our focus again in black and white because this segment has laid plain the type of man who helms the Xtreme Wrestling Alliance. Our ominous narrator leaves us with one final ominous question to chew on...
VOICEOVER: Hector Perez...is he REALLY the man for the job?
With that dear viewers...we fade.
